The varsity track team has enjoyed having several members of our drill team join track and field this year. Nicole Clayson, Tayxa Talbot and Roxie Simpson are making a significant contribution to our early season team success.
Nicole throws the javelin and competes in the high jump and pole vault. This is only the second season that Spanish Fork has competed in girls pole vault and Nicole set the school record in the pole vault by clearing 7 feet in a recent meet. Within reach for Nicole is to qualify for the state meet in the pole vault by clearing 7’6″ and qualifying for the BYU Invite by throwing over 90 feet in the javelin.
Tayxa high jumps and competes in the hurdles. She has already cleared 4’10” in the high jump and wants to clear 4’11” and qualify for state. She continues to improve in the hurdles and she has the potential to qualify for the BYU Invite by running faster than 17.89 seconds. With a personal best of 18.95 this is within reach.
Roxie set a lifetime best in the long jump last week by jumping 14’8″ This qualifies her for the BYU Invite. She hopes to continue to improve and place high at the region meet. She also has huge potential in the shot put and discus. As she works hard and improves she has the potential to qualify for state in both of these events.
