In a contest that saw both unusual and lackluster play at times, and some of the best soccer of the season so far, the Dons of Spanish Fork ultimately dominated possession to find the back of the net three times. Springville drew blood early while the Dons were still finding legs, but a long through ball was played to Senior Matt Conway who thumped it hard to bring the score even at one.
The half arrived with the Dons and Devils sharing the lead at one each and set the stage for Senior Joel Fernandez to receive a slotted ball on the left with enough space to play a beautiful side net winner well past the Devil’s keeper.
With 17 minutes remaining, Springville found the equalizer to bring the score to twos.
Regulation play ended at 2-2, but the overtime 10 minutes saw a different Dons team. Domination possession, passes, and keeping the ball in the attacking half for most of the ten, Senior Matt Conway got the last touch on a loose ball in the box. Conway, the hero of Tuesday’s win over Provo, netted two today and both at key moments in the Utah County matchup.
The Dons head into Spring Break next week, but return to play two road games in the high country – facing Park City and then Wasatch.
