At the conclusion of only 70 minutes of play, the final whistle blew on a blowout result when the visiting Eagles of Maple Mountain used speed and strong attacks to find the back of the SF net eight times.
The Dons had chances many times throughout the match, but just could not find the frame and were low on gas during much of the second half.
The Maple Mountain team possessed well and with two strong and speedy forwards were able to dismantle the Dons’ defense run after run. “Our girls played hard and smart, but in the end they are a tough team that plays very well together,” said coach Shane Ferrin. “Having the advantage of knowing a few of their strengths and tactics proved to be a pretty poor advantage after all. Take nothing away from either team, both have great players and great young women. It was a good battle in spite of what the score shows.”
The Dons return to play on Thursday as they travel to Salem Hills. Game time is 4:00.
